This is one of the 35 ghostly heads which will be dotted around the space for the Halloween event. They all have different faces, and different coloured plastic trailing from them. The plastic is lightweight enough that it will animate easily in the wind without dragging the lantern around too drastically. It will also pick up the light from the lantern, adding colour and movement to these simple lanterns.
Fifteen pairs of spooky eye lanterns. They will hang in the trees around the abbey, hopefully giving the impression of lots of giant creatures peering down on the audience.
The first of the shaped lanterns I'm working on at the moment is a ghostly figure. The light will sit in the torso, and the lightweight skirt and arms will animate in the wind and give it a bit of life. Fifteen of these figures will float in the trees around an abbey for halloween. The other shaped lanterns will be decorative skulls, bats, spooky eyes and ghostly heads. More photos of the others soon.
Started work today on two hundred willow lanterns for a halloween event. Half of them will be standard triangular lanterns like the one above, and the other half will be fancy shaped lanterns. One down, one hundred and ninety-nine to go...
This weekend I am at Now Play This games festival at Somerset House in London, designing and prototyping a physical game with Angie Bual. Here's how it was looking earlier today -
