The hollow lino forms, which I described in the previous post, have been fastened to two long bamboo poles which extend from the backpack below, all the way up to the top of the puppets head.
Bamboo is used a lot in backpack puppets and other parade builds because it's lightweight, strong, and naturally resistant to snapping in windy conditions.
I taped the arms and legs in place for this photo so I could get a quick look at the overall proportions.
Now that the basic shapes and structure of the puppet are ready, it's time to start work on the control rods which will articulate the movements of the head and limbs.
It's time to wake him up...
